Dog-shaped cumulus
Drifts the Texas border
Barks me a welcome
Up north, rays whisper
Canned sunshine on a long string
Down here, dawn engulfs
Beefsteaks ripening
Tomato tar stains my hands
I’m part of all this
Sunset’s pastel hands
Reach kindly for my pale face
Warm for a moment
Barefoot this evening
Red clay harbors August’s heat
Returned to myself
